I wanted to share this event that took place on Monday, 3 October 2016 at the National WWII Aviation Museum. I was urged to put it together and it was the second such event because the first one was a great success. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the museum staff, all the participants and our panelists. You made this summit a huge success!
This year we discussed veteran homelessness and mental illness, jobs and opportunities, and our federal representatives took on VA benefit issues, including Veterans Choice in health care. For such quick planning, it was an enormous success. Joining me were Representatives Terri Carver, Lois Landgraf, and Pete Lee, State Senators Larry Crowder and Kent Lambert, and U.S. Congressman Doug Lamborn and U.S. Senator Cory Gardner in hosting and participating in the event. We have some pretty good ideas on legislation to address several concerns.
Also promoting and participating in our event were Mr. Duane France with Aspen Pointe and military combat veteran, United Veterans Committee (UVC), Rocky Mountain Human Services (RMHS), Mt Carmel Center of Excellence, Peak Military Cares Network (PMCN), United Way, El Paso County Homeless Veterans, the Veteran Resources Initiative, the Wheeler Advisory Group, the Pikes Peak Workforce Center, UCCS Military Affairs Department, and our local military chapters of the Foreign Legion, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA). Special thanks to Cindy and Barry Gillis of GCES, who played a significant role in gaining news coverage, their daughter, Jenna Gillis singing the National Anthem, and sharing their business endeavor.
I encourage our veterans to connect to one or several of these organizations to stay informed and to participate in solutions that matter.
